The Sun Military Awards 2010 - Emma Willis

The Sun Military Awards 2010

We were very surprised and thrilled  to be nominated for a Sun Military Award 2010, in Support To The Armed Forces, for our Shirts for Soldiers. Jenny and I had an amazing day, invited to Downing Street by David Cameron with the other nominees, followed by the Awards ceremony at The Imperial War Museum, which was extremely moving. World famous sports heroes bowed  to courageous servicemen who had shown extraordinary selflessness to help others,  sometimes incurring horrific injuries, in the face of great danger. Jenny and I were lucky enough to be on David and Brooklyn Beckham's table, who were both utterly charming and generous with their time. I had great fun sitting next to David Jason, who Beckham asked if he could possibly play Rodney to his Del Boy. “I think you’d make a very good Rodney!”. After dinner Rio Ferdinand asked if we could make his shirts, which wasn’t a hard question to answer. His Majesty, King Charles III and David Cameron made excellent speeches, and X Factor’s Matt sang.

I will remember legend boxer David Haye embracing Ricky Fergusson who has suffered severe injuries, and saved  many lives, repeating emotionally “You’re the man”, and Beckham smiling, talking, and being photographed throughout the evening.
